Waveform Determining

This section describes procedures to determine:

  • Generator signal waveform type (CW, high-ripple, pulsed) and its characteristics.

  • Slow periodic variations in the load reflection coefficient (e.g., due to the mode stirrer rotation or similar effects).

For HomSoft versions V5.0.2.0 or higher, use the new, fully automatic procedure.

For HomSoft versions older than V5.0.2.0 (down to V5.0.0.1), follow the instructions for a manual procedure. The steps outlined can also be followed in the newer HomSoft versions; we recommend reading them to understand the process involved in the automatic procedure.

An analysis of the files created by either method is essential for appropriate Homer configuration, in particular, for the contents of the Homer internal Hom.cfg configuration file. Improper settings can lead to erroneous and fluctuating measurement results and incorrect (often chaotic) autotuning.

Once you know the waveform characteristics, the appropriate Homer settings can be made as described in the Signal Waveforms subtopics.
